ALWAYS use Smith machine or dumbbells for safety......NEVER use a barbell. Now with shoulder-width position lower the dumbbells toward your neck. Keep elbows pointing out and raise quickly. It is not necessary to lock arms at the top. If you have shoulder pain this may not be the best exercise for you.
