About Erin
After a two-year sojourn, Erin Ellington has returned to the spotlight once again. One of the world's most beautiful fitness models, who has graced magazine covers and countless layouts, Erin resumed her career during Summer 2007, to the delight of her many fans. Erin has adorned many magazines, including Muscular Development,
American Curves, Planet Muscle, MuscleMag International, Muscle Media, Slitz (Sweden) and advertisements for No Limits, Psychotic Sportswear, Moda Italia, and Crazee Wear. In addition, in a first-of-its-kind, Muscular Development magazine featured Erin on a remarkable two covers within three months – plus spotlighted her in a 30-page centerfold layout and interview.
"I'm one of the lucky ones," Erin reflected during a break from a day of shooting. "Most girls can only dream of the career I've been able to pursue." Like many "overnight" success stories, Erin Ellington's multi-faceted life cannot be
captured fully in the one dimensional photographs that reveal only her rare beauty. "It was hard work," Erin commented. "I grew up in the small farm town of Adel, Iowa, one of seven children of German, French, and Native American Descent. My father passed away when I was young. What I've achieved has been the result of a positive attitude in the face of adversity."
The elusive combination of brains, tenacity and beauty have helped Erin achieve her goals. In high school, Erin captured academic honors while also serving as captain of the cheerleading squad and competing on the girls' golf team, as well as being elected Homecoming Queen. Erin went on to earn combined degrees in Psychology and Sociology from Cornell College, a private school in Mount Vernon, Iowa. Following graduation, she worked in numerous professions—as a flight attendant, as a youth crisis counselor, and even as a funeral home's family
service counselor.
"I was always humble, and certainly never realized I could be on magazine covers," Erin said. However, a nationally known fitness and fashion photographer recognized her beauty and suggested a test shoot in Los Angeles. "Modeling was something I never thought I could accomplish because of my height." Erin commented. "I stumbled into it for pure enjoyment and happened to get some great work and published along the way. Working out and staying fit became a vice for me after my father and younger brother died when I was in my teens. That carried over into my college days when I did nothing but train at the field house and study. I am fortunate there was a boom in the fitness industry at the time my agent scooped me up. Eventually, the media and the Internet, especially men's fitness magazines and a plethora of web sites designed for men were wanting to see fit yet feminine women. Even though I was still on the lean and petite side, I managed to fit into the classification
of "fitness model" because of my curves and physique. And my face fit the bill," explained Ellington. "That's really why I was able to model. But I never took the work to heart and always tried to have some fun. My job required me to work out and stay fit, which was a dream career for me. Not too long after I began modeling, I began working with photographers by selling stock images of myself through the use of the Internet, but this time I made the business endeavor my own. I eventually got burnt out and really couldn't keep up with the demand of producing enough quality stock photos of myself to where I was personally satisfied with the results and decided to take a break from modeling."
Erin admits that she is constantly being asked why she never became an actress and moved to Hollywood. "I never wanted to go that route. I spent a very short time in Hollywood and still occasionally work in L.A. and stay in
Santa Monica for the makeup artist work I am doing, or a photo shoot, but I never had an interest in acting. I never once auditioned for anything, not even a commercial or a video. Hollywood was not my cup of tea, and I have always
had other interests in my life outside of modeling and the entertainment industry. With taking the Hollywood route, I never wanted to fight to be in the spotlight, like so many people I watched, and still watch today. I had so many professionals in my face bossing me around when I was in my mid-20's when I began modeling telling me I had to go to auditions and be an actress. One of my very first trips to California, my agent put me in his car and drove me to Baywatch casting offices, walked me inside the building, and introduced me to the casting directors for the show. The casting director asked me if I had plans on moving to California, and I said, "Absolutely not." When we left the building I think my agent wanted to choke me. I think he really had faith in me that if I had packed up and moved to California permanently that I was going to be the next big thing. I appreciated his enthusiasm for me, but it was not my passion at that moment in my life. That was back in
the 90's.
I was happy in Colorado traveling to my modeling jobs, doing my
own thing, and I kept repeating myself that I did not want to be an actress. I see my work as a model as passive I guess, and I like it that way. I didn't think anyone would really pay that much attention to my photos because there are
literally thousands of beautiful models out there. I felt comfortable in the health and fitness market because I conditioned by body and was so strict with my diet." Erin explained, "It was nice that I've had some recognition as a
model, but I intentionally didn't go out chasing any commercial, film or video exposure because that was never my plan in the beginning. It was everyone else's, and that just drove me away from it more, I suppose. I thought about
acting one time, for like 30 seconds, and then I came to my senses." Erin admits, "Yet, one request I've been hearing about lately, and often, from fans and admirers, even my daughter and closest friends, is about the Wonder Woman
movie role. I think it is more of a comic book fantasy thing with the guys to tell you the truth, but yes, I have a lot of people telling me I should play Wonder Woman in Joel Silver's future movie project based on the comic-book character. It all started when artist Monte Moore did some paintings of me as "Wonder Woman" that were auctioned off at the Pittsburgh Comicon Charity auction a few years ago. Some fans of mine started photo shopping "Wonder Woman" garb on some of my outdated modeling photos on the Internet too. It is all pretty funny to me really, and I do have a genuine sense of humor about all of this. I think there are thousands of actresses who want that role, or fans that want a particular actress to play that role, but I am flattered that people have thrown my name into the discussion as to who should be given the role as Wonder Woman. It's all pretty funny, but if given the opportunity to meet with Mr. Silver, of course how could I resist?"
Outside of her leading role as mother to a daughter and a son, Erin uses her creative talents as a free-lance makeup artist working with models, actors, and actresses preparing for competition at IMTA. She resides in Boulder County,
Colorado. "I love juggling a full schedule being a mom, traveling with my makeup artist work, taking on a photo shoot, and spending time with my family and friends. I am a believer in the "You never slow down, you never grow old"
theory when it comes to living a healthy life and finding happiness."
