Rotational Medicine Ball Throws

Athletic action originates at the hips. The hips act as a key tie between the upper body and lower body as athletes run, jump, weave and explode in competition.

With this tie-in being such a key, it is also important to train the body to rotate in different directions so that balance and stability can happen in different planes with the hips helping as a key factor.

Rotational medicine ball throws are fantastic because they not only train the body to rotate, but using the ball adds a weighted ballistic effect by throwing the ball away from the body.

Here are some great keys to successful rotational medicine ball throws:

  • Use a good athletic base

  • Hold your hands under the ball

  • "Sink" with your hips-don't bend at waist

  • Rotate your arms and move hips at the same time
